As much as we love traveling, we have to admit how it’s kind of hard to stay healthy since we are on the hunt to try and eat new food. For starters, finding a restaurant that serves delicious and healthy food is a bit challenging. You have to do your research to find one or a few.

Luckily, staying healthy while still enjoying traveling and trying out new cuisines isn’t as hard as you think. It all boils down to being mindful and a bit of planning.

I do not want to miss out on good stuff, so I do not deprive myself of eating a sinful meal, and you do not have to as well. It’s all about balance, my friend.

So here are some of the tips to stay healthy while traveling:

Bring your go-to healthy snacks

Especially if you are going to spend most of your day outside visiting amazing places, this will come handy. You can bring go-to protein bars or let’s say a trail mix on a small container.

Opt for no-sugar or fresh fruit drinks

Doing this is a no-brainer. If you dine in a restaurant, better check if they offer fresh smoothie options or drink and if you have no choice, then water.

Always bring water with you

Squeeze in some quick workout (if you can)

If you have enough space in your room/hotel, you can do a 5-10 minute workout. There are a lot of free workout videos on Youtube that you can check out. Please check out Danette May ‘s channel. I’m sure you’ll find it helpful.

You can also bring your running shoes and maybe squeeze in some early in the morning walk or run before you start with your itinerary.

If you cannot do any of these, then that’s fine! You may do some stretching instead. Chances are you’re going to be walking for most of the day anyway.

Balance your meals

The trick is, have a healthy breakfast and then eat whatever you want on the next meal, maybe lunch or dinner or vice versa. There’s nothing wrong with eating or trying out food that does not usually fall into a healthy category, and that’s okay. You’re traveling, so you are allowed to have fun and enjoy, right? Remember, being healthy doesn’t have to be restrictive.

Research and plan ahead

Do your research and check the area where you will be staying, and maybe you will find a few restaurants that serve healthy meals. Check out the menu of the restaurants online to see if they serve healthy options. If not just try to eat the less sinful option on the list. Eat more veggies than rice, or have no rice at all, choose steamed or baked or grilled than deep-fried. Instead of trying sugary desserts try the fruits. Simple choices that help you stay healthy while traveling.
