HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN PRESET USING LIGHTROOM + FREE PRESET
Hi everyone! I am so excited to share with you my process on how I edit photos using Lightroom both for my blog and social media accounts, specifically Instagram. Curating your feed is one of the things you can do to your IG account to build your brand and attract more followers and eventually generate engagement.
I use iPhone XR and A6000 mostly for my blog and Instagram Photos as well as for producing video content. It’s a mid-range mirrorless camera in terms of price and one of the best mirrorless out there for its price range.
Sure, having a DSLR or mirrorless cam can level up the quality of your photo. But here’s the thing, no matter how high-end your camera is, it still boils down to how the photo is taken; what angle, lighting and etc. So having the right gadget is, of course, a big plus but achieving that outstanding photo and video doesn’t only rely on it.
I have one on my desktop for my blog and on my phone and I use one preset now to make my brand more consistent. What I love about LR is that you can make a preset on your computer and then transfer/sync it to your mobile device which makes it so easy to use and helps with consistency on your blog and IG feed.
Switching from VSCO to LR is one of the best decisions I did because everything is convenient and I can still make adjustments and achieve the color and feel that I am aiming for.
CREATING YOUR OWN PRESET IN LR
1. I made my own using the desktop version then exported it as a DNG file
You may play with Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows.
Temperature and Tint I use minimally for the overall color.
HSL is something that you can control as well unlike other apps, this is usually where you can make the colors dark, lighter, and even reduce the saturation especially on the colors you do not want popping on your photo.
2. Save it to your Dropbox (Desktop)
3. Open the Dropbox app on your phone
4. Export it to LR mobile
VOILA! You have your edited photo in just 4 easy steps.
HOW TO USE PRESETS FOR YOUR PHOTOS
Import the photo you want to edit
Copy the settings on the photo that has the preset (Click the circle with 3 dots on the upper right corner of the app)
Go to the photo you want to edit and paste the settings (Click the circle with 3 dots on the upper right corner of the app). I only do minor edits on the photos after I paste the preset. Usually it’s the exposure
Export the newly edited photo to your Photo Gallery
Watch the mini clip below for the tutorial:
Easy, peasy! I usually adjust the exposure and temperature and sometimes even the shadows.
Apps I used before:
VSCO – A6
ABM – San Francisco Preset
Huji (I use this for my IG stories)
There are influencers out there who are selling their presets and here are some of them:
