It’s a fact and we all know it! Work-Life Balance is a challenge whether you are working in a corporate setting or as a freelancer. So how do you balance your work-life? How do you draw the line between working too much and spending quality time for yourself, friends, and family?
Setting boundaries can be quite difficult to do especially if you’re in the comforts of your home and at the same time working. Since you are home, and not bothered about rushing through rush hour traffic you tend to be too comfy and in the zone to finish everything you need to finish. At the end of the day, you realize you’ve done more work than other activities in your life and let me tell you, my friend, that is not healthy.
So how do you balance work-life as a freelancer or online entrepreneur? Here are some things you could do:
Give yourself a break. Taking a vacation or just spending a few days out of your home or home office will release stress from your work or business. Also, this may help you come up with new creative ideas for your work. It doesn’t have to be out of town or out of the country just as simple as a road trip or go to the mall or park.
Know when to stop
The problem with online biz owners or freelancers is that once we get too focused on something, we go all the way. We totally forget that we can always do some of the things for the next day.
Prioritizing is key. What are the 2-3 things you NEED to finish for the day? List them down. Are the tasks URGENT or not? If not, then save them for the next day.
Make a schedule and stick to it. If you schedule work in the morning, that gives you time to do things in the afternoon and vice versa.
When you work, you work 100% but when you’re not, you got to let yourself enjoy and not think of checking your emails or slack.
Learn to say No
Taking too many clients is a very tempting or attending a party when you have a deadline to do is not easy to turn down.
Are you able to get a night of decent sleep for the entire week because you have too many clients? Can you go to another party or the next one instead of this week?
Create a mindful daily routine
I still cannot believe how making a daily routine can greatly help me with managing my time wisely every day of every week. Aside from my working hours, I can still squeeze in time for workout and self-care every day. I also use Google calendar and my trusty planner to plan my every day.
Make it a MUST DO for the day: UNPLUG from your devices – phones, computer, or laptop. Spend some time watching on your TV or go talk to your family and friends and meet up with them over coffee or dinner. Read a book. Cook or bake if you must or if you can.
Today, we are glued to our devices and gadgets more than ever and it’s not healthy. It is keeping us from doing things we should be doing or other things we can do. We need to make time and make make memories, meaningful conversations and bond with the people around us. You should never be too busy to do that.
Treat or Reward yourself every once in a while
Did you set a goal for your work or biz and you were able to hit it? Go buy yourself something or take yourself to a spa to get that much needed “me” time.
Have you got time to do any of these? it’s hard to begin at first. It’s always the first step that’s the hardest. I know but once you realize the importance of balancing your work-life would make a really good difference.
Making time for other things other than your work should also be your priority! Work is just a part of your life and not your life. So it’s not just about not about work, work, and work. You got to “play” as well. You don’t want to wake up one day and just realize you have not done anything in your life other than work don’t you?
