Choosing the best design for your blog should be taken seriously. It’s like choosing an outfit for a job interview. You want to make a good impression but this time it’s for your audience.
Blog design should be one of the top things you should consider especially if you have an online business or selling digital products or services. It’s what attracts an audience and piques their interest.
Why is it so important? Content is more essential, right? Yes, but the thing is, the look /aesthetic of your blog will help you make your audience scrolling. With people’s attention span getting shorter and shorter, we need blogs to be highly visual. The more appealing your site is, the less boring it is for your audience to look at.
If you want to be serious with your blogging game or you want to take your site to another level, then here are 6 tips in choosing the best design for your blog.
This is the first thing to consider. Of course, pre-made templates have limited options BUT they give you more freedom to choose colors for your branding.
Some questions to ask before deciding:
Does this design resonate with your blog/brand?
Does the template feature if not all but most of the content you want your blog to have?
Don’t worry if you can’t finalize it right away. It might take a while for you to decide especially if you are just starting. As for me, it took a few months before I got to choose mine.
Prices/costs of the designs ranges from 30 to 100+ USD. With that in mind, you need to consider these:
How much are you willing to spend/invest for your blog?
Are you eyeing something but doesn’t have the budget at the moment?
It’s okay if you are having second thoughts about buying. There are available free templates online if you don’t have the money yet. You can check out opt-ins of web designers, use it while you save for the template you are eyeing then buy later.
TIP: Usually online sellers give discounts to their subscribers or have sales (Black Friday etc.) You may benefit from this.
This is optional but important. It’s a plus if the template offers multiple layout meaning you can decide on changing your layout without doing CSS or coding. This will come in handy without shelling extra cash.
If you are tired of the current layout, you can switch to another layout option for the template/design that you have. Boom, your blog feels brand new again and you did not even purchase anything. Amazing, right?
Check if there are design features, the more the better.
4. SOCIAL MEDIA SHARING
A place/space where your social media accounts can be clicked is one of the things to look for in the design. You want your reader clients to know you more by giving them a chance to check your accounts. Usually on top, on the sidebar, and footer are the optimal areas the icons may appear.
Nowadays, people are glued to their smartphones and they access almost everything in there so it’s safe to say that your audience will read your blogs using their phones too. Considering that factor in mind, you want your blog to automatically adjust to the size of mobile phone or tablet. Don’t you just love reading articles or blog posts from your phone without zooming the page just to read the content? That is what it means when we say responsive and you want that for your blog.
6. HIGHLIGHT BEST CONTENT/ASSETS (AND OVERALL FEEL OF THE HOMEPAGE)
Choosing what will be on your homepage is very important. This will give your audience a feel or overview of what you are offering and what is in it for them when they keep on browsing. This will be a deciding factor if they will continue or stop checking out your blog.
To help you out, answer this question:
Does the template highlight your best content or is there an option for you to highlight your articles, videos for readers to consume?
Sliders on top are usually the best way to let the readers know what content you are creating.
Highlights of categories or popular categories is one great feature as well.
